Western Digital WD1200JD SATA disk The drive is clicking; I took this to my local shop. They couldn't read from it with their tech stuff. They said I needed professional help. There may or may not have been a power failure or surge. Computer was on in a.m. and when I came home in p.m. had a screen message that it couldn't boot.

Removing a Hard Drive from Compaq Armada 1100 Laptop
1.Turn the computer over and remove the seven keyboard screws With your Armada turned off, all cables disconnected from it, and the battery removed, turn it over on a flat, stable surface so that the bottom of the computer is facing you and the labels are to your right. Using a small slot screwdriver, remove the seven screws which hold the keyboard/cover in place (Figure 1). These seven screws are all marked on the back of the computer with arrows.
2. Remove the keyboard/cover Turn your Armada back over onto it’s bottom,
open the screen, and lower the rear feet. As shown
in Figure 2, lift the edge of the keyboard/cover
closest to the screen on both sides of the computer
(left & right). Lift the cover, tilting it towards you to
unlatch it from the front of the computer and lift it
off. 3. Remove the drive from the computer Use a small slot screwdriver to remove the screw retaining the drive as shown in Figure 3. Slide the drive slightly towards you to disconnect it from the connector in the computer. Lift the drive from the computer.
Do not forget to remove the bracket and a connector bar from the hard drive, if they used on your model. Keep them for the new drive installation.
