Drive belongs to nephew and niece. Another drive was purchased for the laptop.
Only attempt that I made was to put it into a USB drive carrier and see if my laptop would recognize it. Un-successful... no other attempts were made.

The drive was plugged into the USB port and failed. It made a grinding noise for a while and when I disconnected power, it was warm to the touch. If the computer is booted with the drive connected, the computer fails to boot. When the drive is plugged in, it does not appear to be available and the device manager reports 'This device cannot start (Code 10).'
