Though it is a 6E030L0510213 MAXTOR DiamondMax Plus 8 30 GB Hard Drive, it is detected as a 40G N40P (Factory name). I have tried inputting the correct values for Cyl/Hds/Sec but the drive fails and is unreadable. As far as I can tell the actual data is fine and the drive is fine, it's just this error that changes the firmware settings back to the N40P values.

Turned on PC, got to program, hard drive started to click and PC froze. No recovery attempts were made. Tried a total of two more times to start PC. Then had HD taken out and a new one installed, but sure need data off the broken disk.
