Hitachi IC25N060ATMR04-0 laptop

Unable to boot laptop, have had it looked at and told that the hard drive starts spinning but will not continue to spin. OS is Windows XP. Tried to recover files by making drive a slave and booting from another drive and this is when it was decided that the drive was not continuing to spin after initial start-up. No attempt was made to repair drive after this was decided on as problem, suggested I would have to send to someone with clean room and expertise in this type of problem.

Hitachi HTS541080G9AT00 laptop

I have an aluminum G4 Apple PowerBook running Mac OS 10.4.11. When attempting to re-use the computer which had been in sleep mode the computer wouldn't come back on. I tried to reboot several times. The grey screen with the Apple symbol appeared with the spinning scroll underneath. That's as far as it got. A grating sound was noted on startup. I shut down the computer & took it to my local Apple reseller. They replaced the hard drive but said they couldn't recover any files from the old disc.
