Drive makes CLICKING sound. Got an error message stating 'I/O hardware failure'. Tried to reboot. Got message stating that the Registry was bad. Then it did a physical memory dump. Then I tried to restart the computer and got a message about a disk read error. Also, I cannot connect it as an external drive either. No recovery attempts other than trying to connect it as an external USB drive. The drive was not opened. It has all original parts. No recovery attempts made.

Thank you very much for all of the help
Thanks,
Michael

Dear Data-R-Us.com team,
Thank you so much for recovering my data! :) Thanks again and please think about sending some of your business cards to me when my drive is eventually shipped. I'd be more than happy to give them to the Apple Store to hand out to customers when their drives break/fail. The companies they recommended to me all quoted me $2000 to retrieve my data, so your company would be very much utilized I think if more people knew about you. :)

Drive is NOT visible in BIOS. The first problem was that the drive failed to boot with a message that the NTLR was missing (or something like that). I then bought a new drive and installed a new OS on that drive (hoping to read this drive as a slave). I do not believe that any data has been written to the old drive since the drive's initial failure to boot. But now when I start the PC, whether I use a cable select or master/slave configuration for the two drives (old/failed and new), the BIOS reports a hard drive failure on this old drive, and the OS does not see the drive at all. The new drive works fine, suggesting that the problem is definitely with the drive, not the PC or controller.

Thank you, David M.

Laptop had intermittent hard drive problems, tried to solve by software. Suspected virus, but not confirmed. Computer restart itself in the night, and when I saw it in the morning, OS not found was displayed. Tried several restart attempts, no ticking or clicking, but sometimes the drive would spin, sometimes not. Sometimes BIOS recognized, sometimes not. Power would sometimes go to it, well, you get the picture, sometimes not. I tried the drive in an exact model of another laptop, did the same thing. I tried to restore or view drive integrity using various freeware drive utilities, but as I did not have the experience in recovering, gave up fairly quickly. I'd like to get the drive cloned to a new hard drive enclosed, so it will boot.

Thank you very much for getting this completed so promptly, I never expected a reply so fast, you just made my day...

On last Wednesday, Thursday laptop would become very slow and unresponsive from time to time and changing laptop position, angle would make it get to normal. I started Windows de-fragmentation process but it would not complete [only 40%] within 2 days. Eventually I enabled Windows file system scan and check on boot but it only completed 3 or 4 phases and stopped at 10% of 4th or 5h one after 4 hours with very loud spinning noise [I do NOT think it was squeaking or clicking]. After power down and reboot it would start loud spinning and after another reboot drive become almost silent with some detectable sounds during first minute. Computer had a blue screen error message, then would not reboot.

-Took to Best Buy (for warranty) and they determined it was not software related and gave a new drive.
-Sent to another data recovery place (Nationwide Data Recovery in Miami) which could not retrieve any data (they use the wrong drive for parts first, then got the correct model number, but the parts (thermal something?) had the wrong number (he said that there were 8 different types of drives manufactured with the same model number)

I remember shutting the laptop a bit hard the night before this happened, but that is about it. Next morning I turned computer on and got a 'Disk read error' along with 3 distinct clicking sounds that repeat in a very regular manner. The drive has not been opened and has the original parts. I think the bad drive was just about full, so if you don't get a full recovery, please let me know what does get recovered. Critical files located under My Documents folder. 'My Pictures' folder and sub folders are the most important, especially folder named 'Brian' in My Documents folder. IE Favorites, files and folders on Desktop are needed too.

I was very skeptical that you would be able to recover all or any of the information on my drive due to the clicking sound that it was making, but I was ecstatic to receive your email outlining the directory structure contained in my drive along with specific files still intact. Although this is an expensive lesson to learn, it's a small price to pay to recover all of my pictures and documents collected over the past several years. Thank you so much for your competent and reliable service. The detailed information you provided as a result of your investigation was more than enough to convince me that you could in fact recover the information. I will definitely recommend your service to others.

I took this drive out of my old computer and put it into a new computer I had purchased. I wanted to then transfer the data to the new hard drive. But the new computer would not read the hard drive files (it did recognize the presence of the drive, but it would not read it). So I then reinstalled the drive back into the old computer and it would not boot up, giving me an error saying 'No OS'. There was also a message about problems with the FAT. I tried to get it to boot up with various recovery disks, but it would not work. I could access the drive with DOS and do a 'dir' listing, but 'Scanreg' just caused it to crash.

Thanks for your assistance with this. Great job!

I had the external drive in my pocket and it feel from about a distance of 2-3 feet. When I connected the external drive to my PC it did not auto-detect. When I listen to the drive it makes a light clicking noise and then just stops making the noise and then the indicator light on the drive dims as if no activity is happening.

Thank You!

The hard drive is not spinning

I shopped around a lot, very carefully, and after a couple of outrageous estimates and one grim experience turned to Data-R-Us. I found Data-R-Us to be a highly professional and very competent recovery service and to top it all the work is done on a very reasonably priced tariff. I would strongly encourage anyone needing first class data recovery to look to Data-R-us first and be grateful they are there. Professor University of Ottawa (ret.)'

The hard drive pwd is formula1.
Drive just would not startup this morning. Was tried in another laptop and did not work. Drive from other laptop put into the laptop this drive normally sits in and worked fine. Therefore problem isolated to a disc drive problem. Drive appears to make a small amount of noise, but not much - clearly seems that it is not spinning. Drive not opened. No other recovery attempts.

Many thanks for your outstanding recovery service you provided to recover our data. It was not our first time we used your company for our recovery needs and it is always A+...

Below are the headings and summaries of reports on two Western Digital drives, one a 120 GB drive and one an 80 GB drive that I gave to a firm in Baltimore to see if they could recover some of the files for my daughter. This firm wants $1900/drive to recover these files. This seems a bit high as the drives do not seem to be physically damaged in that the directory structure seems to be intact and all of the files are listed as 'Good' and do not have to be 'repaired.' In addition, I only want to recover two or three folders from each of these drives, things like My Documents, My Music, and the Identities folder that contains the Outlook Express email files. I can't afford to recover the data on these drives at anything near the price that the Baltimore firm wants. What do you think? Would it be worth sending these drives to you for recovery after I retrieve them from Baltimore? These drives were damaged when I tried to plug the power cable into a DVD drive while the computer was running.

Thank you for your efforts and reliable services; great value for money too!!
All the best,

The Toshiba hard drive was removed from the laptop and tested externally. There are few failure symptoms for your attention:
1)There is no drive in the BIOS menu screen (that appears with pressing F2 when Toshiba begins booting).
2) No spinning disk sound is coming from the HDD (the heads or spindle stuck?)

Was running application Photoshop CS2 with approx 900 images opened in Camera Raw. Selected all images to be saved as JPG's for my client. Gave the computer ample hours to work, did not interrupt it. When I returned the spinning wheel was still spinning and the computer was not responding. I attempted to force quit and it was still not responding. I shut down the computer by pressing the power button, and then turned it back on moments later. At that point the computer would only enter its initial startup screen with the grey background and apple insignia on it, nothing else. Restarted several more times but to no avail. I brought the drive to a data recovery center in NYC to have it repaired and diagnosed. They wanted $2500 which I felt was no less than an absurd and took back my computer. I heard a high pitch squeal noise like a bearing going out. It would squeal, then not squeal, then squeal again so I turned the laptop off quickly. Drive was in a 12-inch Apple iBook. The left palm rest area (above drive) was warm, but not more than normal, so I let it cool. It would not startup later, so I removed it from the laptop. It did not click or make other noise, but I could feel it pulse 6 times, pause, 2 times, pause, 2 times, pause a while then start over with 6 pulse, etc. but would not spin up. I opened the drive cover, but did not touch the heads or other devices. I closed the drive and cycled the power a few times. That continued for few times. Then we had sent the computer to our IT department. They told us: BIOS: acknowledges Hard Drive. Dell IDE Diagnostics: Error reading drive. Knoppix: No Hard Drive found.

Thank you for your efficient work in restoring our data.

I spoke to a franchise owner with RescueCom, and he referred you to me. I believe his name was Tony. Here's the history: I put my computer into hibernate mode on Thursday night. I left it in my car accidentally overnight, and it was a very cold night. When I got my laptop out Friday morning, it would not turn on. The blue power lights were on, so I think it did not go all the way into hibernate mode, so I thought the battery had died. I plugged in the power source, and I got an extensive, full screen error message, black with white writing. It said something to the effect of 'Sorry for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start properly.' Then it listed things that may have happened (i.e. shut-down, freeze up) and then gave me options for what mode to start it in (i.e. Start Windows normally, last known good configuration, and safe mode). I called Toshiba and they told me to take it to a computer repair shop to have data recovery, then to do a system recovery with my CD. CompUSA said that my hard drive was not readable. He had put it into another computer. He said he could hear it spinning, but it couldn't be read. Then I talked to RescueCom, and a technician came out to do data recovery, but he told me I'd have to send it to a clean room. I believe his computer recognized my drive, but then just couldn't pull anything off of it. I then called their company today, spoke with Tony, and he suggested I contact you guys.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I am so happy and thankful!!! THANK YOU SO...
Sincerely,
Meghan F.

Compute froze up and after powering down and then back up it was not able to see the hard drive. Apple removed the hard drive and I would like to ship to you for data recovery.

Thank you very much for recovering all my data. I highly recommend
your services and passed it on to Apple. Thank you. Sean C.

Originally the OS crashed, and when I rebooted, the machine recognized the disk at the BIOS but didn't get past the boot loader. The drive was then removed from the laptop attached to an IDE sled and tested on a different machine. At this point the disk would no longer spin and was not recognized by the BIOS, even when placed back in the original laptop. No other action on the disk was performed at this point.

Thanks very much,
-- Scott

Drive was making humming and clicking sounds and would intermittently not allow laptop to initialize. Drive appears to have stopped spinning as there are no sounds heard.

Great job!!! Thank you much for getting the data! I am so happy that I picked your company to deal with this trouble of mine. There were sooo many places with soooo high prices!!! that I thought I'd go in the lifetime debts over it.
With your $490 flat I'm so relieved and thrilled and satisfied and cannot ask for more. Superb!!!

Not powering on at all. There was a total drive failure on my computer. It could have been related to a power surge, not sure. An initial attempt was made to recover the files, but it was unsuccessful.

Thank You

Mark D. Reston

The laptop blue screened. The error on reboot was something like, 'no bootable drive found'.

Your work is greatly appreciated. Thank you for all your efforts.

Hard drive failed and could not boot the computer. Drive needs to be repaired or, at least the most important files must be rescued from bad disk. We have used data recovery software - and outside vendor efforts.
Data to recover in the first place: ALL User created Folders and files under the root and files under the My documents folder; Outside vendor was able to recover all standard jpeg files- but NO Raw photo data files such as *.cr2 etc.

Dear Data Recovery team!
Thank you so much for recovering my files, needless to say you've done it all and much more. Absolutely impeccable work at such affordable fixed price, as stated on your website! My highest recommendation of your professional services to every-, anyone

I just restarted the LT at the end of my normal business day and it never came up. Listening to it indicates that it just won't spin up. Data recovery via software tools was attempted but since the drive won't spin up it failed.

I got my new drive with my recovered files are on. Thank you so much...

Dropped notebook; battery discharged due to bad power cable (both in the same night).
After recharge the system worked for a few hours. Attempted to load QuickBooks, but system locked and went to blue screen. Would not boot up after that. Makes small clicking sound.

We really do appreciate all your work. We'd like to let you know that we got back everything we needed and it's so great. A satisfaction more than 100%...

There was no noising or clicking before the hard drive was dead. It was dead after leaving the computer on for a night when it was downloading. Tried running disk utility a couple time, but it failed and it said the hard-disk was unmounted. Trying to connect to another Mac computer and function as an external hard-disk, but it was not detected by the other Mac computer. The hard-drive is still under warranty, so I hope the hard-drive can be returned to me in good condition, assembled, no missing parts, no damaged labels, no dents, no dings or scratches, according to Toshiba I hope the data can be recovered.

Thanks for recovering my data! It's really appreciated.

Thank you for the data recovery service you provided in cloning the drive.

Thank you for your efforts in this matter...

The screen went black and had white letters saying NO OPERATINGS SYSTEM DETECTED. The drive was not opened and no recovery attempts made.

This was our family PC with 4-years of pictures containing our 4-year old twin boys, the thought of loosing them was unbearable, and many thanks to you that we got them all back. Our gratification for your work is endless...
